Liver Enzymes AST and ALT slightly elvated. Pros help please!!!?

Hi, I recently performed a annual check up and got my results yesterday. Everything else is normal besides my liver enzymes. My AST is 86units(36 units above Quest Lab's upper end for normal range), My ALT is normal (50units)but close to the upper end of the normal range. I don't drink alchol at all and I did not take any anti-biotics recently. The only things abnormal before the test was I only slept for 4 hours the previous night because I have to finish a project. Also my knee was injured and got a bit inflammation at that time. I will go for a second test next week so I just want some info here. Does the lack of sleep and the knee injury contributed to my elvated AST? Thanks

The normal range of values for AST (SGOT) is from 5 to 40 units per litre of serum (the liquid part of the blood). The normal range of values for ALT (SGPT) is from 7 to 56 units per litre of serum. AST (SGOT) and ALT (SGPT) are sensitive indicators of liver damage from different types of disease. But it must be emphasized that higher-than-normal levels of these liver enzymes should not be automatically equated with liver disease. They may mean liver problems or they may not. For instance, if the liver is inflamed on the day that blood was drawn—let’s say if a patient consumes an alcoholic drink a few hours prior to blood being drawn—the levels of the transaminases may be much higher than if the alcohol had not been consumed. Following the same reasoning, if the liver was damaged years before—by excessive alcohol use—the results of a blood test done today may be normal, but a damaged liver may still be present. To confuse issues even further, there are many other factors besides liver injury that could affect the levels of AST and ALT. For example, males have higher transaminase levels than females. And, African-American men have higher AST levels compared with Caucasian men. Even the time of day that a blood sample is drawn may influence the level of transaminase elevation. People appear to have higher transaminase levels in the morning and afternoon than in the evening. Food intake does not appear to have a significant effect on transaminase levels. Thus, levels do not significantly differ in the fasting and non-fasting state. Finally, transaminase levels may vary from day-to-day. The interpretation of elevated AST and ALT levels depends upon the whole clinical picture and so it is best done by doctors experienced in evaluating liver disease

Taking that many Advil in one day can be very dangerous, and can cause liver problems. It is clearly not helping the problem of your period pain if you have to take that many. Talk to your doctor about how much you take and how frequently. They can get you on something to make your periods much less painful and suggest alternative pain meds to deal with the pain. there could be many reasons for this. Have you taken a lot of tylenol recently? This puts a heavy load on the liver. Have you been tested for hepatitis?

Probable not. Are you obese???? NAFLD (non alcohlic fatty liver disease) can develop in obese people, wich goes along with fatty liver disease.

Add cooked whole grains to your salad to increase the fibers and protein and make the meal feel more satisfying.
