He was told he could have a swollen stomach and was given "Apo-Ranitidine or Ranitidine HCI".
He was having trouble breathing in great pain, and was told if the prescription didn't work he would under go a stress test. The pain has been like muscle spasms off and on for two weeks. he is very tired as well.

what is Ranitidine HCI for?
what type of heart problems could behave this way?
what does a stress test entail?

Gastric distress can imitate some of the symptoms of a heart attack, so a stress test isn't really out of line, especially if the Zantac doesn't take care of the pain. A stress test is done under controlled circumstances, basically an EKG done with mild exercise.

Sorry about your troubles. Doesn't sound as though he could or should undergo a stress test. I've done one or two. But I suppose the doctors know what they're doing - my daughter's one and she does. Search the drug through Google. I hope it all goes well. Two weeks is a long time to put up with anything like that. No wonder he's tired - but it could be anything from a low blood count to whatever takes the doctor's fancy. All one can do is lie back and relax, stand on quietly, and all will be revealed. Personally I reckon speculation doesn't help - so I leave that to the medicos and the First Mate.

Do not let your husband take the stress test, I just did and it enlarged my heart. Before and after pictures show massive enlargement of the right side of my heart. My Cardiologist told me that "Everything looks Great" I had to retrieve my own records to find out what was wrong. I got on the Internet to look up right ventricle enlargement and the first story I read was of a man who said that he has right ventricle enlargement, but cant understand because he did so good on the stress test he lasted thirteen minutes..... here is a story of a man who died on the stress test . notice how his doctor states that he didn't know that the mans heart was enlarged until after the test during the autopsy. ignoring the possibility that it enlarged during the test.

2000 dollars per test, huge industry, Google burys all negative stress test stories. Yahoo does not.

Ranitidine HCL is also known as Zantac. It works by reducing the amount of acid in your stomach. This helps heal and prevent ulcers and improves symptoms such as heartburn and stomach pain.

Heart Problems?? It has to do with your stomach!

Looks like they are treating him for heartburn. You should get a second opinion and a stress test immediately. A stress test helps determine the ability of the heart to witstand physical stress. Typically you will undergo a 15min treadmill walk/run while the heart is monitored. It is easy to misdiagnose heart conditions especially in young men.

Ranitidine HCI is used for reflux and stomach ulcers.

Severe reflux (heartburn) can feel like a heart attack when really bad.

He still could have oesophageal reflux or a stomach ulcer and he needs a stronger medication - this is diagnosed by an endoscope.

go to www.webmd.com and check out the medicine and it will tell you everything you would like to know.

as for the stress test, it can be done 2 ways. one would be done with your husband walking on a treadmill, and the other would be your husband lying still on a table and the docs will set him up with an IV and put medicine in and test his heart rate that way.
