i heard a strange, kind of squeaky/vibrating noise in my left ear twice today (once about 30 min. ago and once earlier in the afternoon) and both times i got scared and batted at my ear because i thought there was a bug flying around it...but there was no bug nearby. being the hypochondriac that i am, i'm now terrified that there is a bug in my ear. i also just had a ringing in my left ear, scaring me even more. it's 1 am and i can't go to a doctor now, and i think waking up my parents wouldn't be the best idea (i'm 18 btw)...my ear also hurts somewhat, but i'm not sure if it's a real pain or if i am just imagining it. i can hear fine and i don't have other symptoms. so how would i know? is this a bug, an ear infection, or am i just being crazy? help is appreciated =/

If you are seriously freaked, flush your ear out several times with a lukewarm mixture of water and peroxide. Just fill up your ear, let it sit a moment, and then suck out the fluid with a bulb syringe and repeat.

BTW, wax buildup can sometimes cause a minor blockage in the ear canal that can actually cause some problems with sound such as popping noises from air pressure changes.

If there is a bug in your ear you would know, I once had an ant in my ear it was really really,REALLY loud. The noise is so loud that it wake me up. If you feel something moving it's a bug. I got out my bug by hitting my ear a few times to make the ant crawl in my hands.

If you feel a tiny bit of pain and hear eating noises, then there is a bug in your ear!

Feel free to watch Star TrekII: The Wrath of Khan for details.

But really, it just sounds like you've got an ear infection. Slapping your ear isn't the answer. Try soaking your head in hot bath water and then gently drying your ears.

You can go to the doctor tomarrow and get a prescription for an antibiotic medicine to clear up the infection.

sounds to me that you have a middle ear infection coming on. My ears ring often to when I have listened to something louder than what I am suppose to do. The vibrating that you might feel and hear, could be the liquid trying to drain. If you are that concerned about it, than go to the doctor anyways. Sometimes when my ear does that funny noise with the ring, I plug it to or three times and then it stops. So cup your hand over the ear and move it against your ear and then let go like you are trying to listen to everything again. Hope this helps

It could be a bug i suppose. But that happens when i have ear infections. Especially if my ear is clogged. Go to the doctor reguardless. If its an ear clog or infection you need to get your ear flushed out and get on antibiotics.

It is possible you have a bug, but it is no big deal, don't worry. My friend once heard a crackling in his ear for 3 months, and later a doctor pulled out one dead spider and one live one, with 5 eggs. I would seek a doctor asap, but no worries, no harm can be done. Now that you know this, the other things that you are hearing could maybe be because you are crazy. hope this helps!
