Question:
Anyone Know How Long Post Herpetic Neuoropathy Lasts?

About 3 months ago I was diagnosed with Post Herpetic Neuropathy after having multiple bouts with Shingles (Herpes Zoster). I have severe burning stabbing pains shooting from my lower spine down my buttocks and all the way across my lower back.
My neurologist prescribed Lyrica (Pregabalin) and Acyclovir.
At the onset of the last bout with the Shingles virus I experienced numbness, tingling and burning sensations in my left leg, foot and left arm. Now I have no sense of where my left leg is relation to walking. I sometimes stumble and or fall. I also was told that I have some muscle weakness in my left leg.
Since being on the Lyrica and Acyclovir a lot of the numbness, tingling and burning sensations have subsided, but the burning stabbing pain is still present. The pain is unbearable, it burns whether I'm sitting or standing. I am currently at the maximum dosage of Lyrica (600 milligrams) daily.
Has anyone experienced this, if so how long might I expect to experience the pains in my lower back?
I also have been diagnosed with "Border Line Diabetes"

According to the Mayo Clinic, the pain can last from months to years. It would depend on the amount of actual damage to the nerves. There are several different treatments; you probably need to visit your doctor again to see about trying a different med or combination of meds.
